Documents You Need To Prepare For Your Mortgage
Let’s face it – preparing for your mortgage is a stressful enough process as it is. While having the proper documents in line to prepare for your mortgage might not seem like a difficult task, it can add stress to the entire process, especially if it’s your first time applying for a mortgage. In today’s blog post, I will be outlining all of the documents that one would need to apply for a mortgage. While the entire process of applying for a mortgage can seem daunting, I’m here to tell you that when you’re prepared in advance, the process is SO much easier!
In order to prepare for your mortgage, start by gathering these essential documents. Your loan officer will most likely ask you for these when you start the process of applying!
Financial Documents:
- 30 Days of Paystubs
- 2 Most Recent W-2s
- 2 Months Recent Bank Statements
- Retirement Account Statements
If you’re self-employed, gather these documents:
- Most Recent 2 Years of Personal Tax Returns (plus all schedules)
- Most Recent 2 Years of Business Tax Returns (plus all schedules)
- Latest P&L (Profit & Loss) Statement
Personal Documents:
- Driver’s License
- Social Security Card
Miscellaneous Documents (these may be needed depending on your unique situation):
- Military Service Documentation
- Retirement/Pension Letters
- Gift Fund Letters
- Divorce Decrees
This list of documents may seem overwhelming at first. However, a lot of these documents can be accessed electronically through your employer. It’s worth checking with your HR department beforehand to see if any of these documents can be found electronically before you start the hunt for these documents on your own!
